Description

HARVEST & WINEMAKING

The fruit for this wine comes from the local St. Helena doctor, Brian Henry, who helped deliver many of the children of Napa Valley winemaking royalty. His Seventh Day Adventist family goes back three generations in the Napa Valley. He and his three hardworking sons felled the trees for this northeastern facing vineyard on Howell Mountain, and planted the land with various clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, in addition to Merlot and Petit Verdot. The Merlot was harvested on October 15, 2013, the Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested October 4 & 17, 2013, and the Cabernet Franc was harvested on October 17, 2013, all averaging 28.6 brix.

The grapes were hand-harvested and cluster and berry sorted before a two-day cold soak. After inoculation with French yeast, the wine underwent small-batch fermentation, with gentle pumpovers 2-3 times per day. In barrel, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation and was racked twice before bottling in June 2015.
